Announcing our first meetup for young social entrepreneurs in Toronto.
Passionate, motivated, and pragmatic about creating change? You may be a young social entrepreneur and not even know it!
We are the Young Social Entrepreneurs of Canada, we are building a community of young people (17-30) who are not only passionate about changing the world, but are also committed to building on and spreading the best practices that already exist out there.
Come join us for an informal networking opportunity on Thursday, September 10, 2009 at the University of Toronto. Learn more about social entrepreneurship, meet other young social entrepreneurs in the field, and hear about some of their current projects.
Want to learn more about social entrepreneurship? Read on!
Up until now, passion and energy and drive to improve the world has been seen to be either a hobby or something we do on the side in addition to school, or our “day” jobs.
While it is nice to do something good for the world, eventually we realize we have to grow up, because it can be financially unrewarding to be non-profit workers, activists, or by being socially conscious. That is, until now.
Social entrepreneurship is a new trend that is emerging in both the non-profit sectors and in business schools. The premise behind it is that by applying entrepreneurial principles to social causes – we can find innovative ways of creating organizations or businesses that are financially sustainable and that create social benefit at the same time. Sounds pretty good, right?
Social entrepreneurship has been tried and tested in many countries around the world, particularly in the U.K. and the U.S. We are among the growing community of organizations that are building this trend in Canada, and are one of the only ones that is run by, and for youth.
